A BIG DECISION FOR QV STRONG

QV Strong formed in early 2020 as a group of volunteer parents, grandparents and community members advocating for a new Quaker Valley High School. We are united not by any individual self-interest, but by a passion for serving our community and its children.

We are believers in active participation, communication, and collaboration among all who live in the Quaker Valley School District. We envision a stronger community and a better education for our kids. While our work has focused on the high school project, we set a broad mission: "to support robust community understanding, involvement and transparency into all district planning, programs, and projects."

From the outset, our group has been apolitical. We are a group of Republicans, Democrats and Independents from different backgrounds and life experiences.

Our purpose expanded earlier this year when we identified a need for voter education in the Quaker Valley school board primary elections. School board races can be tricky for voters. Very few public officials have more impact on our kids’ education, and there are virtually no resources to help voters make an informed decision.

BIG DONOR FROM PHILADELPHIA SEEKS TO INFLUENCE QV SCHOOL BOARD

We have been alarmed by the recent influx of money from an out-of-town donor who is spending tens of thousands of dollars to influence school board races. We are disappointed to learn three QV candidates, Brett Williams, Doug Jones, and Heather Saftner, have accepted funding from this Philadelphia area Political Action Committee, allowing outside interests to have influence in our small community.

Before the primaries, we provided the community with profiles of all school board candidates who chose to participate. Members of our QV Strong Steering Committee also invited each candidate to meet and discuss their goals for our district.

QV STRONG IS PROUD TO ENDORSE THE FOLLOWING CANDIDATES:

  • Daniela Sauro Helkowski and Jon Kuzma
    Region 1
    (Leet, Leetsdale, Bell Acres)

  • Stratton Nash
    Region 2
    (Sewickley Borough)

  •  Kati Doebler
    Region 3
(Aleppo, Edgeworth, Glenfield, Haysville, Glen Osborne, Sewickley Heights, Sewickley Hills)

We devoted significant time to assessing each school board candidate -- reviewing qualifications, records and statements; conducting candidate interviews, and seeking out their views on key issues. That work, coupled with the news in recent weeks that outside PAC money has quietly infiltrated our local school board campaigns, has made it clear there are clear choices in the November 2 election that will impact our kids for years to come.

For these reasons, we decided to endorse a slate of dedicated, ethical, well-informed candidates running for the School Board. This slate, like QV Strong, cuts across party lines and includes Independents, Republicans and Democrats. But what they share is far more important.

-  All support moving forward with the building of a new QV High School on the property located off Camp Meeting Road.

-  All have a strong track-record of service to our community.

-  All are thoughtful citizens, who have done their homework and demonstrated a genuine interest in doing the hard work required of serving on the unpaid school board.

-  All have demonstrated their independence and willingness to remain focused on academics, not politics.

We believe these candidates will steer our school district in the right direction, providing Quaker Valley students the best chance at future success. Please join us and vote on November 2 for:

Stratton Nash -- Region 2 (Sewickley Borough)
